ABOUT US Charollais Australia is a joint venture between Colin, Heather and Anthony Hilsdon, Danengate, Hamilton and Ian McDougall of Farmgene Pty Ltd, Gladstone, South Australia. Colin and Heather Hilsdon emigrated from the UK in 2008 with sons Anthony and David, his wife Claire and son Ryan. They ran a flock of Charollais in the UK so were keen to become involved in Charollais in Australia. Since arriving in Victoria in March 2008 they have managed to purchase Danengate, the neighbouring farm, Nigretta Downs and the gourmet restaurant Cafe Catalpa, where Colin and Heather's eldest son Mike is head chef. Charollais lamb is now on the menu at Catalpa and eagerly sought after by diners. Ian McDougall has lived in the UK for the past 23 years spending much of that time inseminating or flushing Charollais sheep. In 2005 Farmgene exported Charollais embryos to Australia. Over the past 4 years the flock has grown utilising Ian's skills in embryo transfer.
