What do Charollais cross well with?

Charollais cross well with most breeds and are the IDEAL SIRE to use over first time lambing ewes. Viascan results from Australia and New Zealand reveal that the first cross Charollais lamb yields as much meat as most second cross Texel and Dorper lambs. The great hind quarter and loin muscling of the Charollais is transmitted to its progeny thereby increasing the meat yield of the carcass without added lambing problems. We have also crossed Charollais over White Dorper with good results, lambs grew much faster, had phenomenal carcass muscling and more length than the pure Dorper.

As a Dam Line Sire Charollais improve the carcass quality of the F1 ewe AND her prolificacy. Currently over 300 Charollais F1 ewes are lambing at Nigretta East. We will report on their performance at weaning in September.
